Proposition R (Los Angeles City Council Term Extentions) LEGAL UPDATE

It's been a while since Prop R was on the ballot, but the legal dust still hasn't settled...and believe it or not, a lot of shady elected officials (councilmembers) are on pins and needles awaiting a final decision and a WHOLE LOT of decisions on who is gonna run for what office, or not, is riding on this judgment.

Legal Challenge to Proposition R moves forward in Court of Appeals

WHO: David Hernandez and Ted Hayes

WHAT: Appellants’ Opening Brief in Legal Challenge to Prop R filed.

WHEN: March 27, 2008

WHERE: Second Appellate District

Los Angeles,

The Proposition R Legal Challenge Team of David Hernandez and Ted Hayes continue in their fight to bring resolution to the ill conceived Prop R.

Proposition R was the Ballot Measure which in the name of Ethics Reform, extended the Los Angeles City Council term of office from two four terms to three four year terms.

Representing the Hernandez-Hayes Team, Attorney Eric Grant 8001 Folsom Boulevard, Suite 100, Sacramento, CA. 95826

Telephone 916 388-0833 and Attorney Anthony T. Case prepared the Appellants’ Opening Brief.

The Brief was filed within the time limit. The City & County now have 30 days to file their documents (opposition brief) in response.

Once filed, the Hernandez-Hayes Team will have three weeks to file a reply brief.

Given the need for early resolution of the terms available to the current council members who will be immediately impacted, Attorney Grant will seek to have the Appeal heard sooner than later.

David Hernandez and Ted Hayes owe a great deal of thanks to the members of the community who have worked for over one and a half years on the legal challenge. Without their encouragement and support this effort would not of arrived at this point. Great Work Los Angeles!

Special thanks the US Term Limits and Judicial Watch for their commitment and support.
