LOS ANGELES COMMUNITY ADVOCATES KICK-OFF EFFORT TO RECALL MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA TUESDAY, APRIL 20, 2010, DOWNTOWN CITYHALL SOUTH LAWN AT 9:30 A.M.

LOS ANGELES – April 19, 2010 – Community Advocate David Hernandez and other concerned citizens have been given the green light from the City Clerk to launch their petition seeking to recall Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa starting April 20, 2010. (Excerpt of petition text below.)

Hernandez, one of the five petition proponents, along with other Recall Campaign supporters including Walter Moore, a former mayoral candidate, will gather Tuesday, April 20, 2010, on the South Lawn of Los Angeles City Hall in downtown LA at 9:30 a.m. to provide the first signatures and kick-off the task of collecting nearly 250,000 valid signatures in the following 120 days to trigger a recall election of what they say is a failed mayor responsible for the economic demise of the City.

“We’re kicking-off this effort on behalf of all concerned Angelenos.” states Hernandez. “This petition is an opportunity for every registered voter in LA to hold the mayor accountable and start to change our leadership. This is about empowering LA to take back our City.”

Community organizers are volunteering their efforts to get signatures, media and donations. They argue that Villaraigosa is responsible for the City’s budget crisis, extensive furloughs and undermining the will of the voters. “LA can’t afford 3 more years of Villaraigosa,” concludes Hernandez

PETITION TO RECALL LOS ANGELES MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA

Committee of proponents who are registered voters of the City of Los Angeles SPONSORING THE Recall petition: Phil Jennerjahn, David Hernandez, Augusto Bisani, Gloria Sheftel, Manny Aldana

STATEMENT OF REASONS FOR PROPOSED RECALL

We, the undersigned voters of the City of Los Angeles do hereby petition The Los Angeles City Clerks Office for redress of our grievances and do hereby request a Recall Election to be held - for cause - against Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Mayor Villaraigosa has continually ignored the warnings of City financial officers for several years. He is a direct cause of the current financial crisis.

Despite record income over the last five years, Mayor Villaraigosa has led the City down a path of reckless and irresponsible spending that would have been avoided by a more professional and competent City Official.

In the face of a crushing recession, the Mayor actually accelerated spending and hiring to the point that the City may have to declare BANKRUPTCY before the end of 2010. While he is now asking City officials to eliminate thousands of City jobs, the Mayor has selfishly refused to fire a single member of his enormous staff - including 16 Deputy Mayors and 93 personal staff members.

Mayor Villaraigosa is now planning to have the DWP enact a “Carbon Fee” to increase rates to help cover the massive City deficit and to pay for the excessive pay raises given to DWP employees.

Voters of this City cannot afford 3 more years of this. His efforts so far have brought about job losses and financial ruin.

We hereby declare that all of the facts contained in the Statement of Reasons to recall Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles are true. Phil Jennerjahn, David Hernandez, Augusto Bisani, Gloria Sheftel, Manny Aldana
