Are L.A.'s Taxpayers Paying Villaraigosa To Campaign For Hillary?

Are L.A.'s Taxpayers Paying Villaraigosa To Campaign For Hillary?
By Walter Moore, Candidate For Mayor Of Los Angeles

A day's work for a day's pay. Remember that one? Me, too.

That's why today I am sending Mayor Villaraigosa a written request, pursuant to the California Public Records Act, for documents showing how much time he spends campaigning for Hillary Clinton, and who pays the travel expenses.

Villaraigosa works -- or is supposed to work -- for you and me. We pay him quite handsomely, far more than he could make in the private sector, given his credentials.

Under the City Charter, moreover Villaraigosa is supposed to spend his "entire time" working as Mayor, and cannot receive compensation other than his salary and benefits.

How, then, can he spend so much time on the road? Villaraigosa has stumped for Clinton in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, and plans to do so in Texas.

Who's paying for the airfare, hotels and other travel expenses? The taxpayers, the Clinton campaign, or Villaraigosa himself? Inquiring minds want to know.

Stay tuned. Unless Villaraigosa "stonewalls" my public records request, we'll find out.
