LIVE VIDEO: Firefighters Battling Blaze at Warner Center Condo Site

LIVE VIDEO: Blaze At Warner Center Construction Site

From KNBC.com:
(updates by Zuma Dogg based on MSNBC/KNBC LIVE coverage)

About 200 firefighters are working to put out a blaze that broke out Monday morning in a (5 story) condominium building under construction in the Warner Center.

Emergency crews were sent to the 6200 block of Canoga Avenue at 8:43 a.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Brian Humphrey of the LA City Fire Department said firefighters expected to get the fire under control but also expected to be at the site most of the day.

Fire crews were hauling hoses onto the roofs of nearby buildings in an effort to attack the intense fire, which sent thick clouds of smoke into the air over the western San Fernando Valley.

No injuries were immediately reported. No evacuations yet. There is talk of dumping water from helicopters since it is a "dense" area (as in "density").

[Question: How does a fire break out to the point of needing 200 fire-fighters, with 250 workers on site? Didn't anyone see it or smell it to call it in right away? I guess I shouldn't pass judgment though till more info comes in. I'm sure a wood construction site could go up pretty quickly...but this was the initial comment by ZD's Batcomputer.]

UNRELATED MATTERS REGARDING HOUSING FIRES: Although unrelated, this fire DID remind me of some news coverage I became aware of over the weekend that I was going to post, anyway: With the housing market in such a slump, and foreclosures on the rise, people are setting their homes on fire to get out of future payments. Unfortunately, now all fire claims with insurance companies are immediately considered for arson. Click here for more.
