Please support parents of Academia Semillas del Pueblo and mobilize to
demand their voices be heard!!!

CHARTER SCHOOL PARENTS REJECT ENROLLING CHILDREN IN ANY LAUSD SCHOOL.*

Charter school parents vow not to enroll their children in ANY school of the Los
Angeles Unified School District fearing their children would be placed AT RISK.

WHO:
Maria Villamil, Community Organizer, Semillas Sociedad Civil,
323/833-3803
WHAT: PRESS CONFERENCE
WHERE: 333 Beaudry St, LAUSD Headquarters
WHEN: June 10, 2008 at 10:30am
WHY: Parents of Academia Semillas del Pueblo call on the Board of
Education of the LAUSD to immediately and unconditionally authorize the petition of Anahuacalmecac International University Preparatory Academy of North America.

Otherwise, parents vow to refuse to enroll their children in ANY LAUSD school and withdraw their children from the District completely due to well documented risks that persist in District schools, such as over-crowding, failed academic achievement, unsafe school campuses, a lack of college preparatory course offerings, and discriminatory practices against Indigenous children.
Background: On May 29, 2008, after initially receiving a recommendation for approval, Semillas received from the LAUSD Charter Schools Division a demand for revisions of our high school charter petition. We believe the LAUSD wants to strip Semillas entirely of any autonomy we legally have a right to as an independent charter school and an Indigenous school community. -Community Service Provider

Looks like Semilla and LAUSD had a little falling out. Wow...looks like the era of Antonio really IS over.
