August 2000 was when "The Zuma Dogg Show" first hit Los Angeles Public Access cable TV.
Zuma Dogg did not appear at City Hall until April 2006. By the first time I walked into City Hall, LA Weekly had already declared my show, "Top 10/Brain-seizing artistry" and fans of the show included "A" list Academy, Grammy and Emmy Award Winners -- along with the anonymous everyday 14-49 year olds who really liked the show. (I think as of this past month, or so, I am finally known more for my City Council apperances than Comedy/Variety public access show -- but I already lived with day to day constant street-level recognition way before City Council chambers became my home away from homeless.)
Since "the City Council era", I have spent all my time and energy on the TV 35 aspect of television (City Council meeting broadcasts), but still crank out an occasional Public Access Special.
Last night, this show was broadcast on the Time Warner cable system covering 400,000 homes.
So I guess this is the "Zuma Dogg 8-Year Anniversary Special." But what it really is, is a half-hour rant, mostly summarizing the problems Zuma Dogg sees with the City of Los Angeles based on his attendance of every one of the Council meetings over the past four months.
Keep in mind, there's a little bit of "Zuma Dogg Update" (shameless self-promotion) for this show, since it has been a while since ZD has addressed this public access audience -- but once that is out of the way, it really comes down to a half-hour "Zuma Dogg Public Comment" where I run down the big items of concern for the 2009 Los Angeles elections.
