Gloria Molina's Arroyo-Seco Mural Controversy Takes An Unfortunate Ugly Turn

LA Weekly's Daily Blog (not to be confused with Zuma Dogg's LA Daily Blog.com) did a story on Tuesday April 2, 2008 about some controversial mural paintings that artists were allowed to paint in Arroy-Seco, part of L.A. Board of County Supervisor Gloria Molina's district. See the overhead pictures of the artists that have been previously allowed to paint their murals in that gully area, until the situation got a little sticky between some of the artists (some of who were rejected/not included) and some other artists who were upset that their work had been whitewashed over. (See this previous LA Weekly story -- and this one, too!)

So Molina simply pulled the plug because it was obviously becoming more hassle than it was worth. So now, no one gets to tag there.

This picture was kinda the problem. Now at first when ZD saw the picture, as a close up...I felt this WAS outrageous for a public mural. It's just not necessary to have a picture like this with the red nipples exposed for a public mural (approved by County) for young kids to see while driving with their moms and dads creating those premature uncomfortable moments.

But, when I saw the context of the mural wall (in some cement gully) -- I immediately reversed my opinion and said, "You had a controlled place that no one would even really see...and now these people will be tagging the walls of your local businesses and businesses instead.

AND HERE'S A REAL PROBLEM. And this ain't no joke, and there is no glee in reporting this. Here's what was painted on the wall in the gully on Tuesday.

I may not be the biggest fan of some of Gloria's policy, but there is no "tee-hee-hee" factor here.
