Here's a fun moment from the Los Angeles City Council meeting at Van Nuys City Hall this past Friday. City Council ended up cutting back public comment time in half because they feared they would run out of time. But there WAS time for this!
HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO FROM LOS ANGELES CITY COUNCIL!
This after hours of their own presentations and repetitive ass-kissing photo op sessions, where each councilmember presses the buzzer to say the same thing that the last eight CMs just said. But when it comes to the actual public hearings...better cut that part down by 50%! (After people took time off, spent gas money and waited for two or three hours to speak.)
THEN, they ended up losing a quorum, but voted on the item anyway. So I hope they reconsider the item on Tuesday since you need 10 CMs in the building, not just 9 to open the roll and steamroll the roll.
Part of the problem may have been that they had to reconsider an item from LAST week's meeting when they lost a quorum after two to three hours of Dog an Pony Shows. (They had to replay a video of a ten minute public hearing from the previous week, because they lost the quorum -- but Garshady thought that he would give the ladies their public comment time, anyway...and they wouldn't know the difference. But ZD knew the difference. Without a quorum, the public comment is not on the record, and the community may not take legal measures, afterwards, if someone does not put the complaint/problem "on the record" during public comment. PLUS, additional time was wasted re-doing the item beyond the (what should have been un-necessary) video replay.
So after all of that, they say that the reason they are at risk of losing a quorum, is because of the people from the community who showed up -- and THE PEOPLE'S TIME IS CUT IN HALF!
(GO SCREW L.A. CITY COUNCIL..THE JACK-ASS LAUGHING STOCK OF TALK RADIO AND NATIONAL CABLE NEWS -- AND FOR OBVIOUS REASONS!
BUT I THINK DUE TO THE ADORABLENESS OF THIS SEXY SINGER, The People were more than happy to have their public comment time cut in half.
I wonder what would have happened if they took care of City business FIRST;
AND CLOSED THE MEETING WITH A FUN CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION! (And if they lost a quorum cause one CM left early, it wouldn't have become a legal matter for the City Attorney and Council President to sort out.
THEY CUT PUBLIC COMMENT TIME IN HALF AND LOST A QUORUM, BUT TIME FOR THIS, TOO!!
