You Cannot Build Your Way Out Of Traffic Gridlock

Zuma Dogg has just finished an exclusive research project regarding traffic and infrastructure. Here are the results, based on interviews with traffic planners, people at SCAG, former State consultants and college professors:

YOU CANNOT BUILD YOUR WAY OUT OF TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK:

It is a misperception to think that if you build a double-decker layer ontop of the 710 and make the 405 twice as wide and build all the proposed infrastructure improvments that are being proposed -- that you will ease traffic.

That's what I thought. It seems to make sense conceptually. But here is why top experts tell ZD this is not the case.

The more infrastructure you build (all the double decker, twice as wide freeways) -- all you do is allow MORE TRAFFIC -- FROM FURTHER OUT -- MORE EASILY FILL UP THE HIGHWAYS.

Meanwhile, the side roads are not any wider. And that's how your communtiy gets screwed.

In other words, if you turn your garden hose faucet up to full blast (density) it will still only come out the amount that the hose circumferance will allow.

If you double the width of the garden hose -- it doesn't make more room for the water to flow through the hose -- twice as much water will pour into the bucket in the same amount of time (traffic in your community).

That is why the only way to prevent complete traffic gridlock is to stop approving all these high density housing projects. I do not see why the City of Los Angeles feels so complelled to provide housing for every immigrant that enters the country from Mexico?!?!? Because that is who they claim they are making the accomodations for. But have you seen these high density housing projects. Pretty luxurious and upscale? Like the name of my article about SCAG, "Planning For Disaster." (Ellen DeGenerous Voice: And it WILL be one!)
