Los Angeles,

Proposition R, the Ballot Measure which bundled Ethics Reform and extended the Los Angeles City Council term of office an additional four years will be argued in court tomorrow.

Almost two years ago, the ballot measure was challenged on constitutional grounds by David Hernandez and Ted Hayes.

The State Constitution prohibits the bundling of issues on a single ballot measure.

Representing the Hernandez-Hayes Team, are Attorney Eric Grant and Attorney Anthony T. Caso of Sacramento.

Defending Prop R will be attorneys from the City Attorneys office and an Attorney representing the League of Women Voters and Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

All Briefs have been filed and the attorneys will be presenting their oral arguments in court tomorrow.

Given the need for early resolution of the terms available to the current council members who will be immediately impacted, the Appeal hearing was given Calendar Preference by the Court.

The impact of Prop R being set aside will be the elimination of the third term in office for seven Los Angeles City Council members.
