Dennis Zine Takes on Citywide Leadership Role on Special Order 40 Reform (Plus ZINE on KABC Audio)

Funny how the one guy who isn't running for Mayor of Los Angeles is the only one getting off his ass to do something for this City.

The highest of mega-props to CD 3 Councilmember Dennis Zine for his motion that he is going to introduce at today's Council meeting (if there is time after the 3 hours of paid "Dog & Pony Show" presentations) that will call to reform Special Order 40 for the first time since it was implemented back in the 70's when things were a little bit different.

All the radio talk show hosts (KFI, KRLA, KABC) are having CM Zine on to explain the motion. Even these most scrutinizing critics are very encouraged by this news and feel it is a very worth step in the right direction.

Audio of Councilmember Dennis Zine explaining the motion on Doug McIntyre's KABC Morning Show is posted below. (Doug, you are fan-tastic, my man!!! Especially during yesteday's J. Shaw, Sr. interview.)

Zine's amendment is specifically targeting known gang members (previously in the database). When someone is arrested, if they pop up as a gang member with a previous record, LAPD may (or shall?) place a hold on the person while the information is handed over to ICE for processing.

CM Smith, who has opposed overturning Special Order 40, is (hopefully) expected to second this motion.

CM Zine says he needs the publics' support. He's truly is doing this on behalf of the community, by creating this opportunity, through introduction of this motion. But it won't take off without massive public support. And it appears to be happening based on all of Zine's radio interview requests in the past 24 hours.

"What I need is for the listeners to contact the Councilmembers and let them know they support this modification. (Call 3-1-1.) This is not a partisan issue, this is a public safety issue. We need this to protect the other innocent children in our society who are following the rules and want to get good grades. The council will follow the public wish. This is a democratic society, we follow public wish. I'm sure there are people on the other side of the fence who don't want to touch it; say leave it as it is; this is racist; this is bigotry. They're going to come up with all these terms to try and shoot this down. We need to make this happen and we can do it with the public support." - CD 3 Councilmember Dennis Zine on McIntyre/KABC Radio.

CM Zine says that he created this motion because he was moved by Jamiel Shaw, Sr's emotionally-wrenching public comment before city council.

And here is why Dummy Ed Reyes' political career is over in this City and Country. Here is his response as aired on Lou Dobbs International CNN program and on Doug McIntryre this morning. CM Dummy Reyes says, "It will cause division because our economy isn't ready for that. I think we will suffer more. Our sense of community will be shattered by this."

ED, what constituency are your representing with that comment. I hate to break it to you, pal...but the people in your community is suffering and shattered because you are NOT doing this. No decent member of your community is against taking measures to tackle gang terrorism on their streets. Better stop spinning on this one, Ed. This will HELP the economy of people on the right side of the law. Which side do YOUR comments best represent, Ed?
