4:00 PM UPDATE: CNN NOW REPORTS THAT CLINTON CAMPAIGN MANAGER PATTY SOLIS DOYLE STEPS DOWN AND IS REPLACED BY LONG TIME CLINTON PAL, MAGGIE WILLIAMS. A lot of dissatisfaction with the ground operations and delivery of a mixed message. Lines of communications were confused. Junior field staff didn't know who to report to between Patti and Hil's pal Maggie. Complaints a lot of money was being wasted on spending. Unsure of the campaign direction. Hillary made the decision herself. Overall, this is the type of stuff that happens when things are going south.
PLUS, these stories for LA City Update for Sunday February 10, 2008
SEE VIDEO: Villaraigosa says, "Health care is a right, not a privilege." But he wants the privilege to garnish your wages for the right. (And did you notice the mayor is only speaking in short, little phrases these days. Can't spit out more than a few words at a time? Hmmm?)
LA TIMES TOP CALIFORNIA-LOCAL ONLINE STORY (2/10)
Gala opens new L.A. art museum: Glitzy debut of the Broad Contemporary Art Museum, or BCAM, marks rebirth after difficult times at LACMA.
[HEY LA TIMES...With all of the economic hardship that is affecting business owners and homeowners, in a city under a declared financial emergency, HOW DARE YOU use the term "difficult times" on an issue like this. It's funded by Eli Broad. Is that who you are concerned about in these "difficult times", LA Times? YOU JUST DON'T GET IT, DO YOU?...THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH BILLIONAIRES TO SUPPORT THE CIRCULATION YOU NEED.] That's it...I'm pulling out my story on Grand Avenue Project! With the stuff LA Weekly didn't print!
COMEDY REVIEW OF GRAND AVENUE (BILLIONAIRE WELFARE) PROJECT: Here's a big five star, luxury reason why the mayor has to pass Prop S and create a bunch of bukly item, trash and all kinds of new fees and taxes. Just what Downtown DOES NOT need. It will fail, if it hasn't already! (Plus it is illegal!)
EDUCATION & NEIGHBORHOODS will consider the Review Commission recommended Sunshine Law on Tuesday, according to Citywatch. If approved, it would replace the Brown Act for neighborhood council. (That's all they report, for now, or I would have linked to more.)
WRITERS STRIKE: ZD broke the news that the Writers Strike would end this weekend. Posted it early Friday Morning and said you would be reading about it in the newspapers on Sunday. Here at LA City Update, we will be bringing you "news before it happens".
STOCK MARKET UPDATE: Batcomputer says, "Watch CNET". (Let's watch and see what happens this week.) Experts are saying it's time to jump on the financial stocks, since they have been beat up so much. Batcomputer says, you will have a chance to buy the financial sector at lower prices than they are currently at. (And that's an understatement.) Batcomputer is very, very nervous that there will be a big bottom in the low 11,000's (or high 10,000's), before a big rally back to the 13,500 range. Look how the market has tanked in January, then again last week. But long term (2-3 years), you should be o.k. if you wanna take your chances on financials. Although the Batcomputer wouldn't. It's just not worth the risk since the dust hasn't settled yet. And we say there will be a lot more dust. Interested in gold in '08? See our update, including watchlist of picks.
