BREAKING NEWS: CM Ed Reyes To Pull The Plug on Las Villas Liquor Arcade!

Hooooooooooooody hoooooooooooooooooo!

You've been reading about the Las Villas Project on LA Daily Blog that ZD calls the Las Villas "Liquor Arcade", because CM Ed Reyes has plans to allow a gaming arcade, serving alcohol to open less than 500 feet from LAUSD schools.

Then, this past Wednesday, during Zuma Dogg's first public comment in months, I requested a "symbolic resolution to wipe the 'stupid cobwebs' out of Ed Reyes' head" adding that, "I have never seen so much community outrage over a project." And, "something is wrong with this project."

Looks like Ed got smart, because Zuma Times has heard that at this Thursday's Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council meeting (6pm at LH High School), CM Ed Reyes will be announcing that the plans have changed at Las Villas -- and it won't be a gaming arcade serving alcohol across the street from schools!

The community has been upset that a liquor variance that was allowed -- and the owners were going for a gaming variance (that could allow an Indian casino to possibly be allowed to operate on the grounds).

So one way, or the other...looks like Reyes found a way to get out of it. Not that he didn't try to blow this shady project past the community...but I would like to applaud Ed Reyes for responding to the community outpouring against this project.

AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO DID ALL THE HEAVY LIFTING AND PHONED IN THE INFO FOR ZD TO BLOG HERE. (I'm just a mere paralegal for all the activists who make ZD do all the typing.)

So if you see Ed at City Hall, or in your district...please be sure to thank him for responding to the community on this! Some people don't participate in community activism because they don't think it makes a difference. It ain't easy...but The People CAN have a say in their community if you work it.
