SUBJECT:
Honorable Members Rules and Government Committee
Resolution (Garcetti-Zine) to OPPOSE H.R. 4088 (Shuler) and related bills.
Federal Legislative Program, OPPOSITION to H.R. 4088 (Shuler), and S. 2368 (Pryor), the Secure through Verification and Enforcement Act (SAVE) of 2007 which fail to include comprehensive immigration reform that addresses enforcement issues, guest workers, and legalization of undocumented workers currently in the U.S.
SUMMARY
Resolution (Garcetti-Zine), introduced November 6, 2007, notes that over the last 20 years, the United States has failed to provide an adequate avenue for immigrant workers in the United States because of an enforcement-only approach.
The Resolution states that the current immigration system needs to be reformed to effectively control illegal immigration by providing legal channels along with enforcement resources. The Resolution also states that H.R. 4088 (Shuler), and S. 2368 (Pryor) (The Secure through Verification and Enforcement Act) introduced in 2007 will result in the separation of U.S. citizen children from their parents and U.S. employers from their immigrant workers, resulting in undue personal and economic suffering. The Resolution therefore requests that the City oppose H.R. 4088 and S.2368.
