More Money Needed To Study Red Car Trolley Project

This isn't so much about the extra $60,000 City Council is looking to approve to study the Red Car Trolley Project, but the fact that they might fire up the trolley. Some folks might be happy to hear that, if they get the extra $60,000 (from $120,000 to $180,000) they need to study the situation, then decided it can be done.

SUMMARY
The Community Redevelopment Agency (Agency) requests authority to increase the contract with IBI Group in an amount not to exceed $60,000 (from $120,000 to $180,000) and extend the term of the contract from June 30, 2007 to December 31, 2008. This contract provides for a feasibility study for reestablishment of the Red Car Trolley. Additionally, the Agency requests an amendment to the FY 2008 Budget to recognize additional carryover of$115,000 and allocate such funds within budgeted line item "Public Improvements."

In April 2005, the Council authorized $100,000 to study the feasibility of reestablishing the Red Car Trolley (Project) in Downtown Los Angeles. The contract was amended in May 2006, to increase the amount by $20,000 for follow-up services. The study released in September 2006 by IBI Group determined that reestablishing Red Car Trolley service in Downtown Los Angeles was feasible and recommended additional studies.
