About a year and a half ago, I did a news article on SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments). SCAG is like one big City Council made up of people (Mayors and Councilmembers) from across the seven county region that officially defines the "Southern California" region.
All fifteen Los Angeles City Council members are a part of SCAG.
And when I spoke with the top experts at SCAG...one thing became very clear when you are looking at Southern California from a regional perspective:
THE PORTS OF LOS ANGELES ARE THE BIGGEST THING GOING!!!
Previously, ZD would have probably said that "Hollywood/Showbiz" was the biggest game in town. But now, I would have to say that the Ports of LA are the biggest thing in the region.
It is said that 40%-45% of all U.S. goods are shipped into the LA Ports; out onto the 710 freeway; and across Los Angeles County and Southern California freeways on the way to Wal*Marts, Targets and Best Buys near you (all across America).
PROBLEM: Traffic congestion and smog are the two biggest side effects that Southern Californians' are burdened with, so that U.S. shoppers can get their cheap goods from China as quickly and inexpensively as possible.
SO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROVIDE MORE AID TO THE REGION SO THAT THIS FLOW OF GOODS CAN CONTINUE.
BECAUSE TRAFFIC IS GETTING SO CONGESTED, IN ABOUT FIVE YEARS...YOU AIN'T GONNA BE ABLE TO GET THAT iPod TO BOSTON FAST ENOUGH.
AND...everyone is getting sick from the smog.
I SAY WE SHOULD SHOULD SHUT 'EM DOWN, Y'ALL UNTILL THEY REPRESENT WITH SOME AID FROM THE REST OF THE U.S. FOR THEY PEEPS IN SOUTHERN CALI, Y'ALL!!!
