ELLIOTT SPITZER to make an announcement at 11:30 AM today. Perhaps he will be announcing his re-election campaign. OR...that he will resign effective Monday.
LA Daily Blog broke the news that he would be stepping down, yesterday.
But most of the news organizations don't have the inside sources that we have...so they had to wait until today to find out. (Make sure you subscribe to LA Daily Blog so you stay ahead of the curve.)
With Republicans calling for NY Governor Elliot Spitzer to step down, word is that Spitzer is in "transition talks" with New York State Lieutenant Governor David Paterson, a legally blind former legislator.
NEW YORK (AP) - A law enforcement official says New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's role in a prostitution scandal grew out of a public corruption inquiry triggered by his movement of cash to bank accounts operated by the call-girl ring. Click here for full story. Gotta empathize with her!
First of all, the big news today is on Wall Street as the Fed stepped in early this morning to take measures to increase liquidity to ease the credit crunch in the face of inflation. Oil was at $109 at the time (8am EST) and the market may have sunk 500 points or more. Now, with this move, look for a 200-300 point gain today on the opening bell to get the party started! (Click here for the LA Daily Blog WALL STREET News Wire) BIGGEST DAY IN A HELLA-LONG TIME! (I'm just glad Erin Burnett is happy today!)
ZUMA DOGG BLOGGING RECORD: Monday 3/10/08 was a HUGE news day with Obama striking back at Clinton ("I'm not running for V.P."), Spitzer and his hoes, Madonna scaring Zuma Dogg with her new face that she debuted at R&R Hall of Fame ceremony last night, Villaraigosa taking HUD money and handing it over to Jeff Carr, the Sojourner/Gang Czar of L.A. behind people's back, Schwarzenegger's California teacher layoffs, LAS VILLAS Community Opposition, Board of Supervisors Executive Office Budget Bonanza (no financial crisis there)...AND SO MUCH MORE. In other words, a record amount of threads blogged by ZD for one 24 hour period.
HERE IS A SUMMARY OF RECENT POSTS ON LA DAILY BLOG.COM:
They say, "Any publicity is good publicity." I bet Elliot Spitzer would prosecute you for saying that because he probably doesn't agree.
The New York State Republican Assembly Speaker says that if Spitzer doesn't resign within 48 hours, they will starting impeachment proceedings and they feel they have the votes to impeach. (See video, it follows Spitzer's statement you have probably seen by now.)
First, Jose Huizar's Chief of Staff Joe "Safer, Greener, Cleaner" Avila leaves to go to work at DWP. I heard LA City Council President Eric Garcetti and mayoral hopeful CM Janice Hahn are both replacing their Chief of Staff...and now CM Tom LaBong's Communications Director, Jane Galbraith, is leaving to go spin for DWP in the "public affairs group".
What's up with all the defections? Maybe Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa needs some helpers at DWP to help jam those rate hikes through.
And as the Hillary Clinton Campaign Co-Chair, I call for Mayor Antonio Villarigosa to both reject and renounce New York Governor Elliot Spitzer's Super-Delagate support for Clinton. Anything less would be seen as an endorsement of this type of hypocrisy and a besmirch on the City of Los Angeles, and all Los Angelinos since the mayor has decided to use his position as LA Mayor to get involved in all of this.
NBC NEWS: Spitzer voice caught on Federal wiretap seeking services of $4300 prostitute named "Kristen".
Click here for CNBC Breaking News coverage of New York Governor Elliot Spitzer's response to news that he was caught up in a prostitution ring. Republicans already asking for his resignation. He is alleged to be "Client #9" in the investigation, although he is not named.
Since he is saying this is a "private matter", the guy may actually have the nerve to not step down. (LOL!) Spitzer is a Democratic Super-delagate for Hillary Clinton. He ain't gonna step down until he delivers the delegates, if at all.
I would expect Hillary Clinton to both denounce and reject his delegate support.
